Setting up for Savannah Stopover

Every year the historic southern city of Savannah, GA hosts a three-day music festival known as, Savannah Stopover. During this weekend, Savannah Stopover will showcase more than 80 bands in multiple venues across Savannah’s walkable Historic District. To prepare for the festival, we got in touch with a few of the bands playing this year to pick their brains on what kind of festivities they will be getting into this weekend.

GRACE JOYNER

Just for fun, why should show-goers check out Grace Joyner at Savannah Stopover this year?

Grace Joyner: Well I write the music so I guess I am somewhat bias, but I think it’s worth a listen! If anything else, myself and the band all have a really fun time performing and people having fun is usually entertaining to watch right?

What was your initial interest in playing Savannah Stopover?

G: being from Charleston, I feel we have a kindred bond with Savannah. We have always loved playing there and just enjoy the city so much in general. The festival has always been of interest and since we are headed down to SXSW we figured this would be the best time to reach out! Happy to be a part of it.

With the festival taking place in such a historic southern city like Savannah, GA. Are you guys excited to do anything in particular while you are there?

G: We have been to Savannah many times being only an hour and a half away. We actually filmed some of our music video for our song “Dreams” there. I particularly like all the little parks scattered throughout downtown. There is so much green it almost makes you feel happy.  Feels comfortable for us in Savannah & we are excited to see our friends that live locally.

What are some of your favorite go to Southern comfort foods?

G: Okra is my #1 favorite southern ingredient. Other then that I like a good biscuit on the occasional morning with a nice cup of coffee.

What is next for Grace Joyner after playing Savannah Stopover?

G: We are headed down to Austin for SXSW after stopover. We make one more stop in another amazing city, New Orleans, to play a show on the way.

What do you have planned for the coming year?

G: We are currently working on our second record we are hoping to put out sometime this year. As well as continue to tour & link up to more festivals.

Okey Dokey

Just for fun, why should show-goers check out Okey Dokey at Savannah Stopover this year?

Johny: We dare you to have a bad time. We have found out in the past year of being a band that our music apparently attracts young kids just as easily as it attracts folks born in the 50’s and 60’s. If you could imagine a classic Motown artist being backed by huge modern synth and guitar walls crowd surfing and don’t think that sounds fun, then you probably won’t like us.

What was your initial interest in playing Savannah Stopover this year?

J: A few of us have played Savannah in the past quite a few times and fell in love with the city. I think part of our rational behind wanting to play Savannah Stopover as a new band this year is to hopefully get to spend more time in Savannah in the future because of the festival. Adopt us Savannah!

With the festival taking place in such a historic southern city like Savannah, GA. Are you guys excited to do anything in particular while you are there?

J: We are suckers for history, so you will most likely find us roaming around the historic district. If you don’t see us there, we’ll be out at Tybee Island trying to not be so pasty.

What are some of your favorite go to Southern comfort foods?

J: Being from Nashville we love hot chicken of course. But when we aren’t slamming hit chicken, our southern comfort foods would be fried okra, chicken fried steak, meatloaf and shrimp and grits.

What is next for Okey Dokey after playing Savannah Stopover?

J: We will be on tour at the time, so we will be continuing that tour. We will also be down at SXSW Music Festival and playing Music and Blooms Festival and Bonnaroo in the next few months.

What do you guys have planned for the coming year?

J: Lots of touring, new music and collaborating, and lots of other strange surprises.

Where can we find you online?

J: You can find us anywhere that music exists, Spotify, SoundCloud, Pandora etc. (Instagram / Facebook / Twitter)

pronoun

Just for fun, why should show-goers check out pronoun at Savannah Stopover this year?

Because it’s going to be a whole event! The record label that I started, Sleep Well Records, is having it’s first showcase!  I will have Charles Fauna and Cape Francis with me. It’s going to be a party for sure. Also my dad is coming! hahaha.

What was your initial interest in playing Savannah Stopover?

It’s such a relaxing festival. They treat the artists like royalty, and all the venues are in walking distance from each other. I get overwhelmed by crowds really easily so a festival like this is perfect. Great amount of people who are genuinely fun to be around.

With the festival taking place in such a historic southern city like Savannah, GA. Are you guys excited to do anything in particular while you are there?

We did play last year actually. We took a nice walk by the river, went to a fun candy shop, just relaxing exploring. It’s such a beautiful city.

What are some of your favorite go-to Southern comfort foods?

All I eat is fried chicken. Can also mess with biscuits and gravy of course.

What is next for pronoun after playing Savannah Stopover?

Heading to SXSW! Then touring back up in Dallas, Memphis, Nashville, Columbus, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Connecticut. It’s a long trip!

What do you have planned for the coming year?

Releasing more new music, I have an album that is almost done. And more touring!!! On the road with Citizen all of May 😀

Where can we find you online?

I would say my Twitter is the most interesting. I often have break downs on it. It’s pretty candid… but of course the usuals.  Instagram / Facebook
